Casino Club - How to Play Blackjack

The typical Blackjack table has a simple layout with a curved shape. The dealer stands at one side, facing one to seven players. All bets are placed in the intended area (a circle or a square) in front of each player. The game always commences from the dealers left, as the first player position is know as "first base", and the last one to the right of the dealer is called "third base". Most experienced players avoid the third base, as it is believed to be a position of disadvantage. The chip tray is situated in front of the dealer. To his right is the currency drop slot, which is where the dealer deposits all the currency he exchanged for chips and to his left is the card deck or shoe.

The Fundamentals

The rules of Blackjack may vary according to the casino or country, but the basics remain the same. The goal of the game is to have a higher hand than the dealer, without exceeding the total pip count of 21. The payout for a winning hand is even with the bet. The only exception made is when the winning hand is a “blackjack” (a total of 21 comprised of an Ace and a 10-value card), for which the payout is 3-to-2. Each player has to beat only the hand of the dealer, so the rest of the gamblers sitting at the table are irrelevant. Up to 8 decks of cards might be used for the game. The cards are shuffled by the dealer and cut by one of the players who inserts the cut card in the deck. The cut card is then placed on the bottom of the deck, serving as a marker for the cards to be shuffled again, when reached. Before the dealing starts, each player must place his bet. The dealer then burns the top card, showing it to all players and starts the deal from his left. Cards are dealt one by one until everyone has a hand comprised of two cards.

Strategies for Up Cards

One way of winning a blackjack game is by taking the right decisions when the up card of the dealer has a certain value. What would you do if the dealer's up card has a value which is more than seven? Try to draw cards as much as you can till you have a hand with no aces or when aces take up the value as one. The net value of this hand should be seventeen or more. Now, consider a situation where you have a soft hand - or a hand where the value of ace is deemed as eleven. Don't try to draw cards if the value of your hand is more than eighteen. It is also prudent to draw cards till you have a value of twelve if the dealer's up card is below 6. Often, the dealer would have a value of 9 or lower than this value when playing a basic blackjack game. And, your first two cards sum up a value of ten or more. In such a case, double your original bet. In other words, double down the move. Remember, blackjack game allows you to split a pair. By doing this, you would be getting two hands instead of one.

Strategies for Hard Hands It is not easy to play hard hands as the cards don't contain an ace. However, some basic tricks can work wonders. For instance, hit when you have values eight or less than eight. Consider a situation where you have a value of nine and the dealer has 3 through 6. Your best move would be to double. If the dealer's moves are different, you can safely hit. In a situation where you have a value of ten, hit always unless the dealer has 2 through 9. In this case, you need to double. For a value of eleven, it is best to hit if the dealer has an ace. If the dealer has 2 through 9, you should double to win the game. But, you should also know when to stand. For instance, if you have a value of twelve, you should stand if the dealer has 4 through 6. You can safely hit in all other cases. For values between 13 and 16, you need to stand if the dealer has 2 through 6. Now, what would you do when you have values between 17 and 21? A blackjack wizard would advice you to always stand in these cases.
